EXCLUSIVE: Alfa Tymz - What it takes to be RADIO KING?

When you start to discuss the Media industry in Jinja, some of the daily names that are often mentioned, is the Media Personality of Alfa Tymz aka Alpha Kato Jingo Hussein. He has won himself the title of King of Radio for the enthusiastic radio shows he has held for some years, We had some chat with him.

Alfa is a Moslem and a Muganda, a twin born in a family of four siblings, him being the last born, he was born to Abdala Ssebude and Hadija Abdala Ssebude, as a Media personality, he went to school and his education was achieved from the following academic places, king Fahad Primary School, Bugembe Islamic Secondary school, and Kampala University.

Throughout his media life, he has worked with a number of major media houses in Jinja including 89.4 NBS where he is currently running a series of major entertainment shows, he previously worked with Baba Fm for 8 years, he worked with Baba Tv for 3 years, but besides media he also runs a business called Tymz Creations where he helps artists through consultancy, Promotion and branding services, this has given him two titles, there is Alfa the Media personality and Alpha the CEO of Tymz Creation.

Regarding why he joined the media, to him, he believes Media is a call, “since my childhood life I always wanted to be on Radio, I think I am among those people who can proudly say my dream came true” he said with smiles.

Alfa gives several contributors to his career success, among those is his determination to work, “I don’t give up on what I start, I am a creative Media person and this is seen in most of the TV and Radios programs I have been running, I have also been inspired by some Media Personalities and that is Flavia Tumusiime and Longido, I remember watching Flavia on Teens Club that was on WBS, she did a youth show on WBS, she has done AM to PM on capital, she has been versatile, all her shows have been a success, she has hosted major events and she is one media personality who has lived a test of time. As for Longido, I listened to Longido on Simba FM, he was the first RADIO presenter I heard doing a show a lone by then and it was a big one” Alfa narrated to us.

He explains why he has chosen Radio and put on hold his TV spotlight, Alfa “ the reason I chose Radio and I left TV, to me Radio is Priority, its my passion, I feel Radio is me that’s why I call myself a Radio King”.

His Goal as a Media person is to leave a Legacy, “I want to inspire people to love Radio, I want people to listen to Radio because of Alfa, I want people to testify of my great work as a Media person”.

Apart from Media, Alfa also manages artists, at the moment Kulumba Paul, Vanie Tyrah are under his management. He believes that if he was to choose another passion, it would acting.

About the industry challenges, “one of the challenges I face is punctuality, on most cases I have to give up on so many things to make sure that I am on Radio on time. Maintaining the uniqueness, making sure that everyday there is something I offer that will keep your listeners glued to the show”.
