Far away from the madding chaotic cities and towns, the beautiful calm Jinja town, now jinja city is definitely the best escape destination every Ugandan and global citizens should consider on their travel agenda.
Now,here is how to plan for a trip to Jinja
Jinja is located 80km east of kampla which is about 2 and half hours drive. For person's using fuel friendly private cars, you might need fuel costing between 50,000ush to 100,000 ish (to and fro) . Those using public means transport from Kampala to Jinja is between 12,000-20,000 respectively.( These prices are not constant)
Now wondering what you should pack for your trip, life in Jinja is so modest and organic ,so might need to leave behind your David Beckham and Kim Kardashian life style and feel free to move around simply dressed, take pictures freely on the beautiful streets of jinja that are deeply immersed in Indian architecture infrastructure that symbolically stands for the historical asian inhabitants of Jinja during the early 14th century. Forget the usual city pick pockets!
You might need a camera, or a good phone to capture Jinjas exceptional beauty, the amazing waterfalls and rapids, the Nile river and so much more in and on the outskirts of this amazing tourism nest. She is definitely that one destination in Uganda you have not seen before.
A water bottle and sunglasses will do you good ,it is sometimes too hot and you might need to refill your bottle with fresh organic juice or water given the fact that Jinja has a couple of spots for freshly blended juice.
When coming to Jinja you might need a tour guide for those interested in tour guided trios to exceptionally unfamiliar beautiful places around Jinja, if not you might consider having a friend from Jinja show you around still, alternatively; you could simply drive through this small but well organised city. Because at the end of the day, all roads in Jinja city will lead you to the main road-main street just in case you are scared of getting lost within, ( you could actually use goggle maps to get to a particular place you would want to go too, the network is well connected).
In case you are lost from the outskirts ,feel free to to jump on a motorcycle (boda boda)and ask to be taken to where you wish to go; the people of jinja are friendly and relatively not so corrupt save for a few.You will be amazed at how the people will guide you with unsurpassed hospitality.
How can we go this far minus talking about accommodations, yes yes!!!! For the luxurious, middle and budget visitors, you do not need to worry about it because you are all sorted, you might need to part with about $100-$150 for those that vet in for more luxurious hotels. And about 130,000 ugshs - 250,000ugshs, 40,000ugshs.-80,000ugsh for both middle spenders and budget visitors respectively
Most of Jinjas finest accommodation has a fuse if modernity and a rich touch of African embodiment. You would love sleeping on a well vanished pallet and creatively curved and trimmed wooden beds , a night in cabins and tree houses, such beauty!
As they say, a hungry man is indeed an angry man, food in Jinja is tasty and yummy!!! Restaurants and hotels in Jinja have quite an affordable menu ranging from mainly local, Indian, Germany, Caucasian and a variety of international mouth watering cuisines.
Oh yes and our outstanding Rolex ,you can't miss grabbing one of Uganda's favourite snack when in Jinja (They taste different from those from other parts of the country!) For starters, a basic Rolex is a combination of omelette (eggs) rolled in a chapati.Now would you not want to explore other amazing Rolex types; the knockout, spicy Diana, baby mama( a couple of humorous names ).Taste these at the Rolex joint in Jinja located on Gabula Road within the City Centre and you will have a tale of your life!
Finally on our list is the activities and where you would love to do them, for those interested in water fun activities such as white water rafting, tubing the Nile, bunker jumping. These are to be done on the outskirts of Jinja, at the banks of the great river Nile, rumble the Nile waves to your thrill and live to tell about it.
