While the tourism industry remains one of the most hit by COVID19 globally, the newly elected Mayor of the newly formed City of Jinja has not eliminated the industry from his five years plan, he shared with us what is included in this special plan.
“First; Jinja is the heart of Tourism in the Country, Jinja has the highest tourist attraction” the mayor alleges. Looking at his expression , you could not fail to notice how proud he is about his city, he continued to break down his plan for us in a conversation that caught us at one of the Hotels located at the shores of River Nile.
His first plan is to make sure that Jinja is open to the world and he intends to achieve this by letting people know more about Jinja, and the tourist attractions and activities surrounding the city.
Mayor Kasolo believes that improving on the infrastructures of the city is going to attract more visitors, and for this he plans to lobby and convince more investors to Jinja, especially into the hospitality business, he notes that there is need for more hotels, and on this he also plans to encourage the local business owners to improve on the quality of their products and services.
The Mayor believes that there is need for the beautification of Jinja city, which he says it can only be achieved if all the residents work together, he plans to extend sensitisation of the residents on matters regarding keep Jinja City Clean, Quote “the beautification of the city is a responsibility for all, we want the people of Jinja to own their city, if its planting trees, it should be done by all” the Mayor emphasised.
The Mayor want to put local tourism as a priority, he plans to encourage the people of Jinja to also visit the tourism cites, “people think tourism is only for people from other countries” he said.
“Still on Beautification we need to gazette places for evening markets to avoid crowds on all the streets which has led to uncontrolled littering, we also hope to revive city gardens like Mayor’s park at the source of the Nile, Rippon, Nile gardens, and we need to open up more of these places where people can go and have a peace of mind”, the mayor stated in his final remarks of our interview.
