INSIDE Mayor Kasolo’s Five Years Plan for Jinja City

Jinja City - Just months after Lord Mayor Kasolo’s Victory, we had an exclusive conversation about his plan for the newly formed City of Jinja. “As National Unity Platform, we have National plans and as Mayor of Jinja, some of the plans serve for Jinja City” he stated. “For starters I have to ensure that things are done the right way, leading inclusively with the people of Jinja City” the Mayor added this with a strong emphasis.

The Jinja People Power Strong Man continued by highlighting the challenge of corruption, “Corruption has been one of biggest problem in Jinja, first on my agenda is to tackle this matter very strongly” he said.

In his plan, the Lord Mayor wants to make sure that Government resources are allocated appropriately and programs are implemented accordingly with proper accountability, not just on paper but with physical evidence. In addition to this, the Mayor plans to Lead Jinja City on the abilities of each Sector so that possible solutions are created for the identified challenges in each sector.

REGARDING THE YOUTH: “I believe that each Youth has a special ability, my leadership hopes to create avenues that support each of these abilities” the Mayor Said citing Sports as an example “ we hope to convince each and everyone who can render a hand to step in and help us create a better future for the youth of Jinja City” he explained.

Still on the Youth Agenda, the Mayor noted that Music, Dance and Drama as an industry has great potential to create opportunities for the Youth which must get proper attention.

According to the Mayor, he believes that if the able bodiedYouth can be encouraged to be productive, by skilling them with short practical courses like Welding, Carpentry, he suggests that more training facilities need to be set up to support the youth of all levels.

When asked about possible start up funding for the Youth by the City Authority under his leadership, the mayor plans to lobby for any possible funding for the Youth but mainly he emphasises that the Youth must learn to be very practical and not to wait for handouts.

REGARDING SECURITY: “ To me, security is mostly affected by idlers, if we can create a working community, help the young people step out of joblessness, this is the best way to reduce insecurity” the mayor stated, In addiction to this, the Mayor emphasised that “we must create more employment opportunities and also consider absorbing people in the jobs they enjoy doing”.

We asked the Mayor what his first call is to the people of Jinja City; In his voice he said “My call to the people of Jinja is that they should focus on what’s good for our City, they voted for me because they believe in me, and what I can offer to change our city for good, I request them to cooperate with me so that we can achieve this together”.

In addition to this, the Mayor would like to remind the people of Jinja that the city belongs to all of us, whether visitors or residents. “Everything should be done in good faith, we should do things in regard with our status now, we are a city” he said with a bright face.

“As a leaders, I promise services above self, I am here to listen and I encourage everyone to be part of this effort to build Jinja City, let us do this together and let us look at this from the bright side”
