EXCLUSIVE: Kasolo's Life Before Becoming Lord Mayor

The January 2021 elections brought so many new faces into the political arena, one of the those, is the famous face of the man in charge of the Jinja City Hall. Most of you know him by the stage name of Kasolo from the Swengere comedy group that has entertained Ugandans beyond Busoga for years.

Kasolo aka Kasolo Alton Peter Okocha, is a born of Kamuli District, a journalist by profession, he holds a position at one the biggest Radio stations in Jinja as a presenter, he has practiced Journalism for 20 years.

For the 15 years that Kasolo has been in Jinja, he has been mainly involved in acting, radio presenting and sports, but how does a man who had no plans of politics get into the political arena and beat hands down the men and women who have been politicians for as long as he remembers.

Kasolo who we now address as Lord Mayor Kasolo is among the young people who were greatly inspired by Bobi Wine aka Hon Robert Sentamu Kyagulanyi, Quote “I was inspired by Bobi Wine to believe that we as artists can stand and change the community through politics”. Kasolo commends his personality, “I have kept a clean record of my personality, I stand firm, and because of people’s confidence in me, I won highly” he said.

When the people power movement which later became National Unity Platform (NUP) under the leadership of Bobi Wine started to shake up the National Resistance Movement in the race to lead the Republic of Uganda, the race that saw President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni win highly to become the current President of Uganda, the now Lord Mayor Kasolo picked a lane in the race.

As many joined the now leading Opposition party in the country (NUP), Kasolo joined the train, as well, while many lost, he (Kasolo) came out singing a song of victory. According to him, besides being inspired by Bobi Wine, he had learned from his Job how the public trusts journalists, Quote “after realising that people trust, Journalists, we have managed to change the mindsets of people, I knew it was my time to run for office”.

The energetic and ambitious Lord Mayor Kasolo who is also the first Mayor of the New Jinja City is encouraged that he is going to turn things around for the good in Jinja City.
