Sandra Kay also known as the Busoga Princess is a performing artiste mostly doing Folk and Afro music, she mainly sings in Lusoga with a bit of English.
“The Busoga Princess is just a music title. I used to perform at Makerere University some years back and I would always do lusoga folk songs and dances, it was such a unique and beautiful thing and the people there started calling me the Busoga Princess, so I rolled with the title.”
When we asked her about what has contributed to her Music success, Sandra attributes her music success to a couple of things, These include: Consistency, passion for creativity, a passion to do something unique, “My fans (I have a very small fan base but these guys are the best of the best, they literally attend all my performances, its amazing) and most importantly, God’s Grace. It's been God from day one, everything I am, my music, this voice and talent, it’s all God”.
For a talented artist like Sandra Kay, what could have made her settle for a performing artist and not recording and main stream artist, in her words she says; “For me, performing is like therapy. Whenever I perform I feel so confident, also, it is so easy to connect to your fans when performing. It is also a great way of sharing with my fans, however, due to demand, in 2018 we also started recording, I have one recorded hit single called “Tomaite” (You Don’t Know), I also have a recorded livestream, and I am working on another project called “Otagumena” (Don’t Break it).
When it comes to Goal, “You know, Uganda has been known most negatively like high levels of corruption, so my goal as an artiste is to represent Uganda internationally by showing the world this unique, authentic and very rich culture.”
Apart from Music I am a student life coach working with the Children of Grace organisation. At University, I pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Psychology. So, through this Organisation I get to mentor children, work with the vulnerable persons in the community. We work with women and tell them about God.
Apart from Music, the only other passion I would follow would be Modelling. Because I want all girls to love themselves and to be confident in their own skin and bodies.
And finally, I think I should even kneel hahaha, you guys are the best, thank you for loving me and supporting me. There are moments when I’ ve felt very low and nervous to perform and a fan just comes backstage and assures me and supports me. Thank you to my fans, I love you all and just so you know, there is a lot cooking this year, just be ready.
