Ian Kabanga founder of Skizer. the guy who came up with the phrase (Jinja is not Uganda) that in Luganda is oftenly said as (Uganda Yamwe, Jinja Yefwe) meaning Uganda is yours, Jinja is ours. Ian shared with us why they came up with the phrase, in his words, he says, “it is a patriotic phrase that helps us to believe more in Jinja, we look at Jinja as a unique place that is not like any other place in Uganda, we try to do things differently, we are naturally and uniquely gifted.”
Jinja the new home to MySpot Magazine is indeed a different place, from the positive attitude of the people, to the unique set up of the city, its now considered by many as a tourism city that attracts so many visitors from within Uganda and outside Uganda.
Despite its natural beauty and its well set up of the streets, Jinja suffers a number of challenges, most which have been attributed to poor leadership, the challenges range from poor urban roads, to growing insecurity. Although these challenges have remained as a threat to many, business is booming, a number of factories and industries are being built.
History has it that Jinja was the most industrialised city in the whole of East Africa, we hope that some of this former glory can be regained.
