Being a celebrity in Uganda is probably one of the most unfortunate things that can ever happen to anyone, this is not a negative statement, its a reality in Uganda. Like Pastor Wilson Bugembe sang, “Ugandans can raise you up and then remove the ladder”
The attitude of Ugandans towards their stars I can say its not reliable, its not consistent, its filled with negative vibes, its filled with unnecessary negativity sometimes, the fact that we have so many people who have not learned how to use social media to discern information, they are misled all the time. We have an un-informed population that can pick up any rumours without verifying it with correct sources and take it seriously.
Being a celebrity in Uganda, you are bound to direct attacks, criticisms, abuses of all sorts. But how can a person of Juliana’s status survive criticism in this sort of population. What many celebrities must learn from Juliana is first of all learning to protect their private lives.
Its important to keep your private life away from the crowds, from your fans, it will not reduce your status, it will give you honour sometimes, come out when you have worth news, a big project, another story to tell. Celebrities must shape their fans, it should not be that whenever you don’t appear in the news for a week, you create a scandal that brings back to the media that is very wrong.
They must learn to make worth news, they should stop making everything an opportunity to stay “RELEVANT”, the best way to stay relevant is to make worth news, reasonably they should learn to come up with projects that help them stay respected, news that attract the right audience in the media.
