Mbale Night Life (The Dos and Donts/ The Good and the Bad)
At some point I got fade up of explaining to the “I GREW UP IN KAMPALA” people about Mbale, I encountered a number of mindsets about Mbale, people who think in Uganda only Kampala has good and fun night life. I was born in Butaleja which is a neighbour to Mbale but I first knew Kampala before reaching Mbale, I came to Mbale when I was probably 18 though I wasn’t so much into happening but I kind of loved the way Mbale was arranged as a city, the streets are much more organised.
To leave that back in the days story, after leaving in Mukono for sometime and working in Kampala, I experienced some real Kampala night life, I went to the busiest pubs in Kampala, talk of Kololo where u smell shisha by just driving through the streets, I moved to Mbale in 2017 when I started working with Step TV, my media life got me going out often, I have been to Mbale’s busiest pubs and night clubs, talk of club el tanjia, Hi5, Sukali, Sinamakosa and Embassy club.
I will tell you what Mbale has that Kampala doesn’t have, first of all Mbale never sleeps, I am talking about the fact that while in Kampala music concerts end at exactly 12:00am, in Mbale music concerts start at 11:00pm till morning. Mbale is LAS VEGAS, you don’t have any limitation of the time to go hang out at night.
Trust me you can buy airtime and transact money with any mobile money service providers through out the night, you can have a quick Boda anywhere in Mbale at anytime.
One of those credible things I can tell you about Mbale, accommodation is really affordable, between 25k - 50k you can get a very good hotel or guest house, actually 50k you can get a hotel with worm water and a super good bed, probably with some breakfast. Food is very affordable and definitely very tasty, there are restaurants that work 24/7. You can eat very nice food for as low as 5k within the city centre “Kikubo”, 5k in Kampala you will have to go down town which doesn’t work beyond 11pm.
Of course there are places you don’t just go to at night, like Namatala, you risk life and properties roaming there at night, recently there has been a rampant killing of Boda Bodas by some iron bar gangs, but the city centre is a safe place.
We have had the privilege to have some interviews with managers of top clubs and hangout places in Mbale, we spoke with Situma Jeff manager club el Tanjia, we also had conversations with the managers of Embassy club, Hi5 and Sinamakosa. We also took time and visited these places to capture how life is at night. You can watch these interviews on our YouTube channel (MySpot Magazine) and see some exciting Mbale life.
